Dear Don,

I was saddened to hear of your difficult illness.  I hope you remember me from the NFB back in 1971 - 1977. I worked with Ron Dick, who by the way,  lives in Ancaster, Ontario, and with whom I still keep in touch.  He's in his eighties now, as is his wife Norma.  I will let them know of your news.

My memories of you make me smile, laugh and wonder at your art, your love of  life, your (to some audacious) original and oh so creative ideas, your hospitality and that of your lovely wife, Rosemary, your light that made the  NFB and the world a brighter place for all of us.  I remember attending one of your famous Christmas feasts in the early '70's (with Annie Alexander) and receiving a gift of a Christmas cactus, the first one I ever had.  I treasured it for years.

Thank you for all your gifts of friendship and fun.  Thanks for your life lived with gusto, curiousity and genius. I send you thoughts of love and wishes that hopefully will ease your suffering.

Three cheers Don!

Marilyn Belec

P.S.  My husband Roman Bittman also sends his best regards.
